Hill's 3 Sends Carolina Packing

You don't want to go to wa'ar, with the Rams!  In what became the 6th largest comeback in NCAA Tournament history, the VCU Rams upset the 6-seeded North Carolina 82-78 in Overtime.  Game MVP, Terrence Hill drained the game winning step-back 3-pointer with 0:15 seconds remaining.

Hill led all scorers with 34 points for the Rams, including the game winner.

Early, it looked like Carolina's 7'2" Center, Henri Veesaar was too much for VCU's bigs to handle.  The Rams kept it within range, only down 11 at the break.  But, with 14:58 remaining, Carolina's Trimble hit a layup putting the Heels up 19.

From that point, the Rams went on a 38-19 run to tie the game, forcing overtime.  In the OT block, both defenses came up big.  Hill's three with the Rams previously down 1, gave VCU the lead they would not relinquish.  UNC went inside to their big, Veesaar and the Rams made sure he did not get off a clean shot.  At the foul line, the big missed his first shot with only 0:04 remaining.   Therefore, he tried for an intentional brick... missing the entire rim.  Nyk Lewis grabbed the rebound and sealed the victory with two free throws of his own.

North Carolina only turned over the ball 8 times the entire game, even lower than their season average.  The Tarheels were also +7 on 2nd chance points and had six more assists than the Rams.  That's three of the main tell-tells to who would win.  The Rams though won the other two.  Possibly the two most important of the five.  Points per Possession for both the Offensive and Defensive side.  The Rams scored 1.108 points per possession while holding the Tarheels to 1.013 points per possession.

The Rams now face the 3-seed Illinois Fightin' Illini on Saturday in the Round of 32.
